Checklist of the Trematodes (Digenea) of Birds of the Czech and Slovak Republics

Original language description

A checklist of 260 trematode species (Digenea) found in birds (Aves) in the Czech Republic (237 species) and Slovak Republic (128 species), respectively, is presented with data on their definitive hosts, site of infection, records in the above-mentionedcountries as well as basic information about their principal definitive hosts, zoogeographical distribution and life-cycles. The highest number of trematodes was found in aquatic birds, especially those of the orders Anseriformes and Charadriiformes, whereas terrestric bird species were infected less frequently. The lower number of trematode species recorded in the Slovak Republic probably reflects the fact that much more birds have been examined in the Czech Republic. Much richer trematode fauna of birds in the Czech Republic may also be influenced by examination of more bird hosts immediately after their arrival from wintering areas because numerous trematodes are transported from these areas or from sea coasts to Central Europe.

Byl sestaven seznam celkem 260 druhů motolic (Digenea) nalezených v ptácích (Aves) v České republice (237 druhů) a ve Slovenské republice (128 druhů), zároveň s údaji o jejich definitivních hostitelích, místu infekce, nálezy ve zmíněných zemích a základní informace o hlavních definitivních hostitelích, zoogeografickém rozšíření a životních cyklech. Nejvyšší počet druhů motolic byl nalezen ve vodních ptácích, zejména řádů Anseriformes a Charadriiformes, zatímco suchozemští ptáci byli méne nakažení.
