Water temperatures and ice cover in lakes of the Tatra Mountains

In this study a continuous measurement of lake surface water temperatures (LSWTs) is summarized for 2000-2001 period in 19 Tatra lakes. Ice cover duration was estimated on the basis of the LSWT record. The significant negative correlation of both timingof ice-off and ice cover duration to altitude was determined, whereas ice on timing was not correlated. LSWT pattern corresponded very well to smoothed air temperature by exponential filter. The water temperature profile measurements in four lakes allowed to determine quantitatively the duration of summer and winter stagnation and turnover periods.

Teplota vody a ledová pokrývka jezer v Tatrách

Czech description

V studii jsou shrnuty výsledky kontinuálního měření teplot vody při hladině 19 tatranských jezer v sezóně 2000?2001. Ze záznamu povrchových teplot byly stanovena období s ledovou pokrývkou. Byla zjištěna závislost povrchové teploty vody na nadmořské výšce od pozdního jara do podzimu. S nadmořskou výškou korelovaly také délka zámrzu a den rozmrznutí, zatímco den počátku ledové pokrývky ne. Vývoj teplot v povrchové vrstvě jezer se dobře shodoval se shlazenými teplotami vzduchu pomocí exponenciálního filtru. Z měření teplot vody na profilech čtyř vybraných jezer byly stanoveny délky letní stratifikace, zimní stagnace a cirkulací.
