Nematode parasites of fishes: recent advances and problems of their research

Original language description

Even though the present knowledge of fish nematodes remains still incomplete, a certain progress in their research has been achieved during recent years. An overview of some of the most important discoveries and results obtained is presented. As an example, existing problems in the taxonomy of these nematodes are shown in the dracunculoid family Philometridae. Opportunities for more detailed studies of fish nematodes have recently greatly improved with the use of some modern methods, in particular SEM and DNA studies. There is a need to create a new classification system of these parasites reflecting phylogenetic relationmships. Further progress should concern studies on various aspect of biology, ecology and host-parasite relationships, because thesedata may have practical implications.

Czech description

I když dosavadní znalosti o rybích hlísticích jsou nedostatečné, v posledních letech bylo dosaženo určitého pokroku v jejich výzkumu. Je podán přehled nejvýznamnějších objevů a získaných výsledků. Jako příklad jsou uvedeny existující problémy v taxonomiihlístic drakunkuloidní čeledi Philometridae. Možnosti podrobnějšího studia rybích hlístic se podstatně zlepšily využitím některých moderních metod, zvláště řádkovací elektronové mikroskopie (SEM) a studia DNA. Do budoucna je nutné vypracování nového klasifikačního systému těchto parazitů, který by obrážel vzájemné fylogenetické vztahy. Pokroku by mělo být dosaženo rovněž při studiu různých aspektů biologie, ekologie a parazitohostitelských vztahů, neboť tyto údaje mohou mít praktické dopady.
