Palaearctic butterfly ecology model for Oriental species conservation

  • Original language description

A study of origin of seasonal polyphenism of nymphalid butterflies of the genera Araschnia, Mynes and Symbrenthia showed us, that the seasonal polyphenism of the taxa did not start under condition of Palaearctic climate, but likely in area of transient zone of Palaearctic and Oriental regions of SE Asia, where also occurred the ancestor of these butterfly group. Study of phylogeny and parasitic myrmecophily in Lycaenidae of Glaucopsyche section again showed, that Maculinea and Phengaris create the monophyletic group with similar life cycles. Based on long-term studies in Europe, the distribution of host ants seems to be a key factor of the occurrence of seriously endangered Maculinea. We supposed that the occurrence of ants is important for surviving of Phengaris as well. As a result of our studies evolution of ecological phenomena of two groups of butterflies, we found, that origin of the two groups was nested in area of Southeast Asia.
