The present study for the first time demonstrated that there are wing- and age-related differences in the fetilization succes of adult males in a flightless wing-polymorphic bug, Pyrrhocoris apterus. These differences are tightly coupled with the wing- and age-related differences in their mating succes, and play an important role in different reproductive and dispersal strategies of short- and long-winged males in this heteropteran. The preliminary results indicate that it is a different amount of secretion, transferred from the male accessory glands into the reproductive tract of females during copulation, that underlies the wing morph-related differences in fertilization success of males in this insect species.

Rozdílná fertilizační úspěšnost samců dvou křídelních morf u ploštice Pyrrhocoris apterus (Heteroptera: Pyrrhocoridae)
Czech description
Práce je prvním experimentálním důkazem existence rozdílné fetilizační úšpěšnosti samců dvou křídelních morf u nelétavé ploštice Pyrrhocoris apterus, vyznačující se nefunkčním křídelním polymorfismem. Tyto rozdíly závisí také na stáří dospělých samců a jsou těsně spřaženy s rozdíly v úspěšnosti jejich páření se samicemi. Hrají významnou úlohu v odlišné reprodukční a disperzní strategii krátkokřídlých a dlouhokřídlých samců u tohoto druhu ploštice. Předběžné pokusy naznačují, že hlavní příčinou rozdílnéfertilizační úspěšnosti samců dvou křídelních morf tohoto druhu hmyzu je rozdílné množství sekretu přeneseného ze samčích přídatných žláz do reprodukčního traktu samic během kopulace.
