Effect of plant species richness on weed invasion in experimental plant communities
Original language description
Invasion of weeds to artificially created assemblages of grassland species was investigated in a three years field experiment. In the experiment, species and functional group richness were combined in a factorial design with fertilization. No hand-weeding was done. The relationship between species diversity and aboveground biomass was positive for sown species in all study years. In the latter two years, weed invader biomass decreased with increasing biomass of sown species and their functional group richness, but not with species diversity. The negative relationship between the number of functional groups of residents and weed biomass suggested that species assembled into groups according to similar traits could have a large effect on species invasibility. Additionally, species composition of weeds was significantly related to initial composition of sown residents.
Czech name
Vliv druhové pestrosti na invazi plevelů v pokusných společenstvech rostlin
