Three gonad-infecting species of Philometra were, for the first time, recorded from perciform fishes from estuarine and marine waters in South Carolina and Georgia, USA: Philometra charlestonensis sp. nov. from the scamp Mycteroperca phenax (Serranidae),P. saltatrix from Pomatomus saltatrix (Pomatomidae), and Philometra sp. from the Atlantic croaker Micropogonias undulatus (Sciaenidae). A key to gonad-infecting species of Philometra parasitizing marine and brackish-water fishes is provided.

Czech description

Z okounovitých ryb v brakických a mořských vodách Jižní Karolíny a Georgie v USA byly poprvé zaznamenány tři druhy hlístic rodu Philometra napadající gonády ryb: Philometra charlestonensis sp. nov. z Mycteroperca phenax (Serranidae), P. saltatrix z Pomatomus saltatrix (Pomatomidae) a Philometra sp. z Micropogonias undulatus (Sciaenidae). Byl vypracován určovací klíč druhů rodu Philometra cizopasících v gonádách mořských a brakických ryb.
