Gastrointestinal parasites of bonobos in the Lomako Forest, Democratic Republic of Congo

  • Original language description

We studied parasites of bonobos (Pan paniscus) in the Lomako Forest, Equator Province, Democratic Republic of Congo. 87 fecal samples of bonobos were examined. Five species of intestinal parasites were including one entodiniomorph ciliate (Trogodytella sp.) and five nematodes (Trichuris sp., hookworms, Strongyloides fuelleborni, Oesophagostomum sp., and Ascaris sp.); besides, four different types of unidentified eggs were found, three of them were trematodes and one was a nematode. Exclusion of the ciliate Troglodytella which is a possible symbiont of African apes leaves Oesophagostomum sp. as the most prevalent real parasite. Most of the animals were infected with one to three parasite. If we exclude the suggested symbiont ciliate, most animals were infected by two or less parasite species.

Gastrointestinální parazité bonobů v Lomako Forest, Demokratická Republika Kongo

  • Czech description

Studovali jsme parazity šimpanze bonobo (Pan paniscus) v Lomako Forest, Equator Province, Demokratická Republika Kongo. Bylo vyšetřeno 87 vzorků. Bylo nalezeno pět druhů intestinálních parazitů zahrnujících jednoho entodiniomorfního nálevníka (Troglodytella sp.) a pět hlístic (Trichuris sp., hookworms, Strongyloides fuelleborni, Oesophagostomum sp., a Ascaris sp.); kromě toho bylo nalezeny čtyři typy neidentifikovaných vajíček, z nichž tři byly motolice a jeden hlístice.
