Taxonomic evaluation of cyanobacterial microflora from alkaline marshes of Northern Belize. 2. Diversity of oscillatorialean genera
Original language description
This study was a second part of the analysis of the phenotype diversity of cyanobacterial mats occurring in marshes of Northern Belize. While the first part had concerned chroococcalean species (Komárek & Komárková-Legnerová 2007), this one was focused on the oscillatorialean morphotypes which were dominant in the studied ecosystem and formed the main component of the cyanobacterial mats. 31 oscillatorialean populations were transferred into pure clonal cultures and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis couldbe provided. Separated clusters on the generic level with 13 subclusters were confirmed by the phylogenetic evaluation, which corresponded to the phenotype taxonomy. We found and described 9 new species, and one generic entity (genus Phormidesmis). Descriptions of two characteristic morphospecies, which were not isolated in clonal cultures were added.
