First record of the cycad blue, Chilades pandava, in Egypt ? a new invasive butterfly species in the Mediterranean region and on the African continent (Lepidoptera: Lycaenidae)
Original language description
Oriental blue Chilades pandava, feeding on Cycas plants, was recorded from Egypt for the first time. According to molecular analyses, the species appears to have originated from South China or Northern Indochina, and it was introduced with ornamental Cycas plants. The recorded butterfly is not only an important pest of cultivated species but its further spread in Africa may have strong effects on the native cycad flora.
