Use of ABA Treatment for the Activation of Drought Protective Mechanisms in Barley Under Non-stress Conditions
Original language description
This study evaluated the sensitivity of three different barley genotypes (Jersey, Malz and Tadmor) to stress simulated by the application of exogenous abscisic acid at the early stage of plant development. The increase of ABA concentration in the leaveswas detected in all genotypes; the lowest amount was found in the most tolerant Tadmor. Increased level of the instantaneous WUE and lower discrimination of 13C in ABA treated plants were found in all genotypes, in drought-tolerant Tadmor even in controlvariant. The genotype-dependent differences were observed also in the expression levels of Dhn4 gene in the leaves. The highest and earliest expression level of this gene was observed again in Tadmor. Tadmor represented type of drought tolerance manifested by high sensitivity to ABA followed by fast induction of Dhn4 gene expression, Jersey and Malz have slower response to exogenous ABA in WUE and expression of Dhn4 changes. The reaction is genotype dependent.
