Natural disturbances (with a special reference to windthrow): A literature review
Original language description
Disturbance is an important driver of variation in community structure and composition in most ecosystems, so variations in disturbance characteristics, such as frequency, size and severity, strongly affect ecosystem properties and processes. In forest ecosystems natural disturbances with their highly variable spatial and temporal scales form an important reference for ecosystem restoration and management. Main disturbance factors, which influence the forest development, are fire, wind, snow, insects, animals, etc.
