Metagenomics in bioremediation: Recent advances, challenges, and perspectives
Original language description
The soil, air, and water are polluted with a variety of pollutants viz., heavy metals, pesticides, xenobiotics, pesticides, etc. Biosorption or bioremediation is the best method to remove these pollutants from soil, air, and water. Biosorption or bioremediation is an eco-friendly, easy, and effective method. The microbial community plays a very important in the removal of various pollutants. The degradation and kinetic studies related to the removal of pollutants are known, however, it is very necessary to know the metagenomics in bioremediation. The exact microbial process behind bioremediation is not fully explored. The omics approach has been used to study environmental systems biology. Metagenomic approaches make use of targeted and shotgun metagenomics. The next-generation sequencing helps to understand the diversity of microbial communities in bioremediation. The present chapter deals with metagenomics in bioremediation.
