Dřívější studie prokázaly, že jak klíštěcí sliny, tak antigeny spirochéty Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato modulují cytokinovou odpověď hostitele. V této práci byl analyzován vliv extraktu ze slinných žláz (SGE) klíštěte Ixodes ricinus na cytokinovou produkci primárními kulturami myších epidermálních buněk stimulovaných spirochetami Borrelia afzelii Canica, Nato, du Merle, Mazie, Baranton et Postic, 1993
