Innovation in potato growing technologies increased fertilization urea efficiency and water protection

  • Original language description

Between 2008 and 2013 field trials were performed focused on innovation in potato growing technologies in order to reach increased fertilization efficiency and to reduce surface and ground water pollution. An effect of trial variants with soil separationtechnology and conventional planting and of a variant with a soakage groove formed on the top of the ridge at planting was studied. A variant with conventional soil processing and broadcasting of nitrogen fertilizers prior to planting was established for comparison. Within soil separation technology local application of fertilizers containing nitrification inhibitors (Alzon) and application of fertilizers containing urease inhibitors (Ureastabil) were used. From various cultural practices local fertilizer application contributed to highest reduction of soil nitrate content, limiting nitrate nitrogen in soil on average of 40 kg N/ha compared to broadcast application. Supposed reduction of soil nitrate content did not occur in evaluated
