The article is focused on lessons learned during development of FCS (future combat systems), mainly aimed at its software solution. Primary interest is laid on wireless communication issues and its optimization in dynamic change of network topology. Furthermore, it deals with HW optimization, communication band preference and system endurance. Besides others, it highlights that previous trend of utilizing commercial or industry component does not always suit military applications for their numerous specifics, unique compared to common (civilian) applications. Therefore, there is a critical need for further development of specific technology critical for effective operation and/or fulfillment of criteria laid on military applications. The article also considers the idea of advanced decision-making support systems implementation and integration in C4I systems at the lowest levels of command and development of capabilities of soldiers required for these systems operation.
