In the selected areas of the city of Brno, Czech Republic, particle matter (PM) concentrations have been determined in weekly sampling campaigns and in different seasons of the year. Air samples have been collected in the sites with different intensity of traffic and different character of a residential area. Seasonal fluctuations in the concentration and distribution of particles as well as the factors which affect the distribution of PM have been assessed. The article focuses on PM1.0, the long-term exposure of which affects population health negatively for the reason of its possible penetration into the alveolar system of respiratory organs
