The analysis of the impact of terrorism on the development of countries represents a significant area of theoretical and empirical research of the state?s defence economy. The paper presents the performance of a classification trees to classify 140 countries on the basis of the relation between the institutional environment in the analysed countries and terrorism risk. To assess the institutional characteristics of the selected countries, authors have used data from the Governance Matters characterizingthe institutional environment by means of 6 variables (Voice and Accountability (VA), Political Stability and Violence (PSNV), Government Effectiveness (GE), Regulatory Quality (RQ), Rule of Law (RL) and Control of Corruption (CC). To assess the level of terrorism risk in the countries subject to the analysis in 2012, authors have used the Terrorism Risk Index data and Global Peace Index data.
