The paper deals with the competences of the commander - leader in the security environment. The characteristic features of this environment, for the performance of tasks by military professionals and systems considered both by the NATO Network Enabled Capability (NNEC) and the Ministry of Defense documents, are a difficult predictability of threats and risks, instability, asymmetry of conflicts, lack of continuous combat area and a low predictability of further developments.
