Working Memory of Future Military Leaders in the Process of Adaptation to their Professional Role and its Impact on Communication Competence Improvement
Original language description
Communication skills are considered by both theoreticians and military practitioners to be the key to serving as commander-leader. Their level in a particular individual is influenced, among other things, by the ability to consciously work with information, that is, the ability not only to acquire and transmit the information but, above all, to remember them, to be able to select essential from insignificant. Significant factors throughout the process are cognitive processes and declarative memory. High demands on memory capacity are placed on the individual even in the states of his own high physical and mental strain (burden). The authors of the article are of the opinion that the memory capabilities of military leaders should be purposefully identified and developed in the process of preparing leaders for their future professional role. Because the relationship between work performance and memory capabilities and commander's communication skills was not the subject of deeper exploration in the case of military leaders or commanders in the past, the authors of the contribution present some points for solving the problem. They also bring the results of the survey, which should provide sub-information on the level of working memory of future commanders in the state of their physical and mental burden for the needs of education. The contribution was created in connection with the solution of the project called Development of Social Competencies of the Commander-Leader.
