    Effectiveness of 3D Printed Shaped Charge Liners in Demolitions

    3D printing technology is rapidly gaining popularity and finding applications in various fields, including the armed forces. With the simplification and increased availability of 3D printing technologies, 3D printers are now commonly used in military units, performing diverse tasks. One promising area is the use of 3D printing with filaments containing copper (or other) powder additives. Advances in these filament technologies enable the production of liners in various sizes and shapes using standard polymer 3D printers through material extrusion methods. This paper focuses on the potential of 3D printing copper liners for improvised shaped charges, with casings that can also be printed on 3D printers. Experimental demolition tests demonstrated that commercially available filaments can penetrate hard steel objects, achieving characteristics comparable to traditional shape charges. The paper compares the performance of these charges with and without copper liners and analyses the results, confirming that liners significantly enhance the effectiveness of the charges.
