The article deals with theoretical aspects of reliability and safety providing in the case of complex technical systems of which possible failures can endanger health and lives of people, lead to great material or ecological damages. Authors present theproposed method of reliability and safety assurance which is based on the newest knowledge in the branch. Possibilities of practical usage of the method are indicated on an example of railway application.

Článek se zabývá teoretickými aspekty zabezpečování spolehlivosti a bezpečnosti u složitých technických systémů, jejichž případné poruchy mohou ohrožovat zdraví a životy lidí, vést k velkým materiálním či ekologickým škodám. Autoři prezentují navrženou metodiku zabezpečování spolehlivosti a bezpečnosti založenou na nejnovějších poznatcích z oboru. Možnosti praktické aplikace metodiky jsou naznačeny na příkladu drážních aplikací.
