The paper deals with an appreciation of passive direction finding (DF) possibilities by means of the amplitude monopulse method which is applied to a passive DF system with a circular antenna array (CAA). To achieve the full coverage 360 degrees in the azimuth, passive systems are forced to use multi-beam antenna arrays (typically CAA) and they solve the accuracy of direction of arrival (DOA) determination. In order to evaluate DOA with the maximum accuracy it is offered to use both digital DF and amplitude monopulse method together. These methods applied on the same antenna system with appropriate antenna phase centre spacing create two direction finders that compensate their advantages and disadvantages each other from the accuracy and ambiguity of the DOA estimation point of view.
