The paper deals with software tools that can be used in various stages of development of ontologies which are needed for knowledge-based systems. These tools are usually use for data preparation and also in ontology development. In the form of knowledgesgained during the project ?MENTAL? is presented a practical using of this software. These tools are presented by - tool for data analysis (TOVEK), tools for creating Topic Maps and ontologies (ATOM, ONOTOA, ONTOPOLY and Protégé).
