Telemetry and Diagnostics of Military Vehicles
Original language description
One of the new trends and strategies in logistic support for Land Based Systems is Condition Based Maintenance (CBM); the next step is Prognostic and Health Management (PHM) in U.S. Army [1], or Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS) [7] in UK Army. This concept is intended to perform maintenance by predicting failures based on a real-time assessment of equipment conditions obtained from vehicle systems with embedded sensors. Key components of this system on the part of the vehicle are: vehicle network architecture, modern electronic control units and intelligent sensors and actuators. The best solution is to obtain real data from control and sensor systems, which are embedded in the vehicle, to onboard diagnostics unit and send the data via telemetry unit to logistics server with diagnostic and prognostic capability. The speed and volume of acquired data depends on the type of protocols, used in vehicle network architecture and on the technique for collecting vehicle data.
