Development of hybrid power unit for a small UGV?s (lessons learned)
Original language description
The article is focused on problematic of hybrid power unit development and its system integration as a main power source for a small UGV (able to propel vehicle approximately up to 400kg). Based on previous experiences with combustion power sources for robotic and remotely controlled platforms were identified fundamental factors of propeller requirements, which converge to an electrical motor application. Advantage of a control ability, effectiveness, reliability and durability is hardly reachable by other type of aggregates. Hybrid system what was developed for this purpose consisted of water cooled 2-stroke combustion engine, electric generator, battery field, DC/DC converter, starting and controlling electronics. Depend on the application it gives better result than original propeller and now it is in stadium of functional demonstrator, where some areas are open for following optimization.
