On the ballistic resistance of the airplane fuselage skin penetrated by the bullet 7.62x54R

  • Original language description

The paper deals with a numerical simulation, through the numerical code Ansys Autodyn v.13.0, of the penetration of 7.62x54R bullet into a sheet metal plate. Fully clamped cylindrical plates are made of aluminium alloy 2024-T3 used in aircraft structures. The thickness of the plates is 1.2 mm. The paper presents simulation models used for parts of the bullet and the sheet metal. The simulation conditions are based on experiments. Next the ballistic limit of the sheet metal is introduced in terms of an ultimate bullet velocity causing no full penetration of the sheet metal. The results obtained can be useful in the analysis of the airframe structures with battle damage caused during war operations or terrorist attacks.
