Imagery Intelligence (IMINT)
Original language description
The general reason for imagery collection is to examine the images for the purpose of identifying objects and judging their significance. In military terms the main purpose of imagery collection and exploitation is to discover new targets, to detect changes on Earth's surface, to perform surveillance, to plan missions, or to assess the combat results. The purpose of the study text is to introduce the term Imagery Intelligence, referred to as IMINT; to explain its history, fundamentals, capabilities andlimitations; to present basic procedures used in a process of image analysis; to show the role of collateral information; and the ways of reporting of results to the customer. Since imagery is a fundamental element of IMINT, a great attention is paid toimagery sources, characteristics and processing methods. Although virtually any image can be exploited in IMINT, most of the text is focused primarily on aerial and satellite imagery.
