An approach to validate simulator behavior based on terrain data analysis
Original language description
Modeling and simulation have a few drawbacks in the military domain. One of them, lack of validation tools for simulator, is essential for the commanders to believe in results of simulation. The article shows an approach that uses the terrain data to reveal the maximum time in which the decision maker can take the results from simulation as valid. Two algorithms compute the maximum difference between altitude of each point in spatial data resources and the percentage value of area covered by terrain objects such as buildings, roads, rivers, woods in vector data resources. These two parameters divide the terrain into several groups. For each group the maximum time must be calculated based on the comparison between the real military operations and simulated one. This approach is suitable mainly for planning process of military operations such as convoy squad and platoon movements.
