An occurrence of phthalic acid esters in the coat of steering wheel of vehicles
Original language description
Twenty-four samples of new steering wheel coats have been analyzed from the view of di-n-butyl phthalate (DBP) and di-2ethylhexyl phthalate (DEHP) occurrence. Samples were bought in the retail chain in Czech Republic. Phthalates were determined by HPLC method. The first analysis was performed immediately after purchasing of samples, second analysis after five months storing. Mainly it is material which is driver in touch permanently. The content of DBP after the first analysis was from 4.6 to 40.9 mg.kg-1 and content of DEHP from 0.6 to 19.2 mg.kg-1. During the second analysis, which was performed after five months of storing, the decrease of phthalates content was detected (values of DBP from 0.1 to 17.6 mg.kg-1 and DEHP in the range from 0.1 to 9.7 mg.kg-1). Phthalates are animal carcinogens and they are able to cause the death or tissue malformation, as well as they are dangerous for liver function and cause reciprocal toxicity.
