    The contribution is dealing with the analysis of data regarding surface conditions on the meteorological stations. As the source regular meteorological reports (SYNOP) coming from the Czech military weather stations and covering about fourteen years period were used where the most important groups describing surface conditions, rainfall and weather condition codes were examined. Discussion is focused on the quality of data and their applicability in development of icing forecasting methods. In addition,the algorithm for error and discrepancy detection in SYNOP reports was worked up. The program using the mentioned algorithm was proposed to be used in operational.
