FABRICATION OF FORMED METAL TUBES FOR HEAT EXCHANGERS BY EXPLOSIVE TECHNOLOGY
Original language description
The efficiency of the tubular heat exchangers could be increased by applying bulged tubes replacing the bare (plain) tubes. The bulges cause turbulences of the media flowing in the tubes resulting in an enhanced heat transfer through the tube wall. The optimal form of the bulges have been designed by computer simulation. The bulges on the tubes are formed by high pressure shock waves created by explosion of detonating cords in the inner part of the tubes. The explosion process involving the plastic deformation of the tube material are also simulated. For reproducible manufacture of the tubes a special die have been designed and built. The paper reports the results of the simulations and introduces the manufacturing proces.
