Original language description
The article presents numerical approach to estimate ballistic limits of the hollow point bullet Action 5 used by armed escort perforating the etalon target as a representation of the transport aircraft fuselage structure. The etalon target contains the composite sidewall, the insulation glass wool layer and the duralumin skin plate of various thicknesses. The target is impacted by bullet in two ways ? directly and using forward substitute biological material to simulate the on-board firing. A differenteffect of the bullet Action 5 on the target is caused in case of striking the biological material first due to the expansion ability of the bullet. The 2D simulations using the hydrocode Ansys Autodyn based on experiments present the estimation of the substitute material thickness to achieve the ballistic limit for various thicknesses of fuselage skin structure. The results obtained can be useful in the analysis of the airframe structures facing pistol bullet penetration during shooting
