Original language description
The article presents 2D numerical model, through the numerical code Ansys Autodyn v.14.0, of the penetration of 7.62x54R bullet into three kinds of armour material. Fully clamped cylindrical plates are made of steel HARDOX 450, aluminium alloy 7039 and titanium alloy Ti-6Al-4V and are used in aircraft structures as add-on armour structure in cockpit. The simulations estimate the minimum armour material thickness to avoid complete penetration of the target in order to meet the standard requirements for ballistic protection of personnel on-board. Materials used are than compared in order to choose the kind of minimum area density to save aircraft performance. The results obtained can be useful in the analysis of the airframe structures facing ballistic threat during war operations or terrorist attacks.
