Modern passive surveillance systems use different methods for determining position of objects of interest (targets). Serious weakness of these passive surveillance systems is the inability to produce relevant information about the position of targets with reduced receiving posts. Signals from SIF transponders (Selected Identification Feature) and IFF systems (Identification Friend or Foe) operating at the frequency of 1090MHz are one of the most significant sources of information about positions and types of air targets. For locating air targets, this subsystem source (SIF/IFF transponders) uses not only its own secondary radiolocation systems but also uses passive systems for air traffic control and for radio-survey systems.
