The Impact of Terrain on Cross-Country Mobility ? Geographic Factors and their Characteristics.
Original language description
The content of this paper refers to the modelling of the off-road movement of vehicles across natural terrain. The article provides an overview of the impact of individual terrain components on the movement of vehicles. The common effects of relief slope, micro relief forms, soils, vegetation, hydrology, roads, built-up areas, meteorological factors, etc. are analyzed. Information from terrain tests and laboratory analyses are included indirectly in the paper. Since 1999 we have conducted laboratory tests, measurements, and the extensive terrain research tests at the Brezina military training area (Czech Republic) to verify vehicles? ability to cross terrain, and to verify whether the terrain data characteristics correspond to the dimensions and othertechnical vehicle parameters. For the tests we used basic military vehicles, and the common ESRI SW for the evaluation and cartographic display of research results. The models of the impact of geographical factors on the military vehicle
