System aspects of contemporary Czech military terminology
Original language description
Research in terminology facilitates the understanding of language development and thus contributes to efficient language teaching. This paper focuses on paradigmatic and syntagmatic aspects in Czech specialized terms from the military and security fieldsof knowledge. According to the conception of the Prague functional structuralism, both aspects primarily examine the form and function from their points of view and complement each other: the paradigmatic aspects from the perspective of the motivation of word formation and the structure of term collocations concerning a combination of parts of speech; the syntagmatic aspects from the perspective of the combinatorics of lexemes and valence related to them, forming term collocations of two- to eleven-words in the research sample. Attention has been paid both to one-word terms and to multi-word terms that are dominantly represented in terminological systems. The research methods presented in the paper are applicable to other languages
