    DETERMINE 360° POLAR FOR CALCULATION OF WIND TURBINES

    In each revolution, blades of wind turbines can reach very high or very low angles of attack (AoA) from -180° to + 180°. However, aerodynamic characteristics obtained in experiments in the wind tunnel are usually small between stall angles, usually around ± 15° to ± 20°. To gain aerodynamic characteristics of the airfoil section of about 360° AoA, as usual, the extrapolation method is used; however, it leads to the loss of reliability of the calculation process. This paper recaps the common used extrapolation method and shows results of the experiments conducted in the wind tunnel with current airfoil in low Reynolds number. The experimental results also indicate necessity to care pitching motions of the airfoil; even it is to consider angular frequency as an aerodynamic variable.
