    Optimisation of the Dimpled Cylinder Geometry by the CFD Simulation

  • Original language description

    The paper deals with the optimization of the ratio between cylinder diameter and diameter of dimples on a cylinder surface by using the CFD (Computational Fluid Dynamics) simulation. The aerodynamic drag is minimized. The low-cost simulation approach was applied to be run on a common PC using the commercial software ANSYS CFX. Results for six dimpled cylinder geometry cases are presented and differences among them are examined. The optimal value of the ratio between cylinder diameter and diameter of dimples is presented. Results of simulations are compared with available results of measurement.
