Utilization of Recorded Flight Simulator Data to Evaluate Piloting Accuracy and Quality
Original language description
The aim of this article is to show a possible utilization of flight simulator data to assess the piloting accuracy and quality in the defined flying task, in this case by the precision instrument approach using Instrument Landing System (ILS). The defined trajectory of this type of approach is a straight line, which make easier to assess deviations in the two perpendicular ILS approach planes. The essence of the article is an example of the method of evaluating complex flight data obtained from series of approach flights made by a sample of future military pilots during their simulator training. The basic evaluation parameters are the angular deviations in the directional and glide path planes of the ILS profile and the movement of the control column in both directions (lateral and longitudinal). Accuracy and quality of piloting was in this method determined as the deviation from the ILS planes during the approach, as well as by the correlation between the control column deflections and the actual angular deviations in both ILS planes. At the end of the paper, the results obtained from this method are presented, and the benefits and limitations of the method for the evaluation of accuracy and quality of piloting in the framework of flight training of future military pilots are discussed.
