Acoustic Emission for Evaluation of Development Damage in Contact Fatigue
Original language description
Objective of this paper was examination of temporal interval from beginning of the test to emergence of damage on the tested sample surface. Experiment was focused on damage of rolling bearings. Bearings are highly exposed to stress and are subjected to deterioration processes. These are most pronounced namely in slide bearings and rolling bearings. Degradation is amplified by lack of maintenance, environmental influence and extreme shocks. Combined influence of these factors could in extreme cases lead to bearing destruction. Loss of bearing function is considered a secondary outcome in majority of cases, primary cause lies in another machine malfunction. Most prolific effect of bearing material fatigue is pitting of the surface. This damage could escalate to the extent where bearing loses its function. Monitoring of these processes was conducted with passive method of non-destructive material testing. Result of this work is description and assessment of active processes in tested component.
