Application of Fiber Optic Polarization Sensors in Automotive Industry

  • Original language description

This paper deals with the use of fiber optic polarization sensors for sensing mechanical oscillations. This non-electric, lightweight and highly sensitive sensor is suitable for measuring temperature and pressure changes in hazardous environments. Thanks to the proposed concept, it is also possible to detect mechanical oscillations by the transmission of the acting force of the weight and spring to the longitudinal stress of the fibre manifested by a phase difference. Testing was carried out with weights from 100 g to 450 g. Depending on the applications, this range can be freely changed based on the sample configuration. The measurements were carried out on a polarimeter and an optical power meter. This arrangement is suitable for use in acceleration cells, in robotic systems and other places where it is necessary to maintain all the necessary benefits of fiber optic polarization sensors.
