    This paper delineates the design calculation basis and the aberration mitigation capabilities of two long-wave infrared (LWIR) refractive optical systems with passive thermal management. The result of the optimal design of an optical system with f#1.2, focal length 100 mm with only four spherical lenses, giving image quality approaching the diffraction limit, uniform in the operating temperature range from −40∘C to +80∘C. The lens housing material is chosen to be Invar or aluminum. Optimal aberration design, simulation and image quality analysis are performed on ZEMAX software.
