Influence of Liner Curvature Radiuses on the Formation Process and Penetration Capability of Explosively Formed Projectile
Original language description
This paper introduces the results of investigating the formation and penetration process of an Explosively Formed Projectile (EFP) with varying liner curvature radius, conducted through numerical simulations using Ansys Autodyn software and combined with experimental validations. Based on the fundamental structure of explosively formed projectile warheads, the effects of liner curvature radius on the dynamic parameters, EFP shape, and penetration depth into steel targets were investigated. The results show that the minimum deviation of EFP velocity between the numerical simulation and experimental model is 2.7%, while the minimum deviation of the penetration process is less than 4.3%. Liners with varying curvature radius significantly influence EFP formation, velocity, and penetration capabilities. The results of the paper are useful for designing an explosively formed projectile warhead (EFPW).
