GNSS spoofing detection based on single signal quality monitoring metric

  • Original language description

Spoofing detection of Global navigation satellite system (GNSS) signals is becoming increasingly essential in today's world, requiring innovative methods to address ever more sophisticated spoofing techniques. This paper aims to introduce an easy to implement approach for detecting spoofing on GNSS receivers using single signal quality monitoring (SQM) metric and identifying specific value that indicate whether a GNSS receiver is affected by spoofing or not. The well-known Oak Ridge Spoofing and Interference Test battery dataset is employed for spoofing detection and processed using the software-defined receiver. Post-processed data is analyzed using commonly used statistic metric, which evaluate the behavior of the correlators within the receiver's tracking loop. Based on a simple configuration and a predefined threshold, the algorithms determine the presence of spoofing on the receiver. Promising results are obtained to detect distortions in the correlation with the presence of a spoofing attack and the very low complexity for a GNSS receivers is also very convenient.
