Consumer Protection and its New Legal Environment in the Internal and European Retail Market

Act No. 89/2012 Coll., the new Civil Code is one of the legal regulations that arose in connection with the recodifica-tion of private law. The new Civil Code is impressive in its scale and is built on the principles of justice and freedom. At the same time the new Civil Code protects the weaker side, which is most often the consumer and the small business owner and brings major changes in this area. The essence of this paper is to bring readers a comprehensive overview on the legal protection of consumers pursuant to Act No. 89/2012 Coll., the new Civil Code, including the unification of this legal standard with European Community law on the one hand, and on the other hand how consumers themselves see this protection. The paper?s aim is a structured evaluation of the legal status of consumer protection in synergy with the legal environment in both the internal and the European market.
