Functioning of the Euroregion Šumava and perception of cross-border cooperation by the residents of Domažlice region

  • Original language description

Cross-border communication began to develop in Central Europe after the fall of the Iron Curtain, which for decades prevented most forms of cooperation between border regions. Political leaders wanted to create an international integrating group that promotes cross-border cooperation. A perfect example of such group is Euroregion Šumava / Bayerischer Wald, which is the key subject of this article. In this paper, we discuss the question of how is the cross-border cooperation perceived by the residents living in the border areas. This article aims to identify determinants influencing the cross-border cooperation from the perspective of residents, and official documents relevant to this issue (strategies, annual report impacts of cooperation, etc.) using the example of Domažlice district, which is crucial for strengthening existing cooperation.
