The overview study focuses on the topic of the region, its characteristics and utilization in regional sciences. The concept of the region is based on the concepts of physical geography. The definition has taken over other scientific disciplines dealing with research related to the geo-physical space. Regional sciences, including geography and economics, sociology or political science, are concerned with space and actors, which determine the character of the space to a certain extent. For that reason, the study included the conceptualization of the region along with the definition of the concept of regional identity. This concept creates research area to connect topics to interdisciplinary research in the field of social sciences.
