UNIVERSITY GRADUATES ? SKILLS FROM THE PERSPECTIVES OF EMPLOYERS AND GRADUATES
Original language description
This study examines the alignment between graduate competencies and labour market requirements by analysing feedback from employers and graduates of the Faculty of Economics at VSB–Technical University of Ostrava. Based on two institutional surveys conducted in 2018, the research assesses the perceived levels of professional and soft skills, identifying both strengths and areas for improvement. While employers and graduates agree on the solid foundation of acquired competencies, shortcomings persist in applying theoretical knowledge to practical applications and in key soft skills, such as leadership, influencing others, and communication. The findings have direct implications for economic and educational policy, highlighting the need for targeted curriculum development and support mechanisms to improve graduates’ labour market readiness. By informing institutional strategies and contributing to the broader discourse on human capital development, the study supports evidence-based policymaking aimed at increasing employability, reducing skill mismatches, and strengthening the responsiveness of higher education systems to evolving economic demands.
