Phosporus forms in a Florida spodosol
Original language description
The fractionation of soil P in a Spodosol from the Okeechobee basin area in Florida was studied. It was found that in the surface horizon most P was in residual, mainly organic fraction. The two fractions extracted with sodium hydroxide, namely P bound on less stable organic matter (humic and fulvic acids) and P bound on Fe and Al minerals, were also important. The distribution of P between the organic and inorganic fractions extractable with sodium hydroxide showed to be the most important factor of Pfractionation in the Ap horizon. Phosphorus content in the E horizon was very low. In the spodic horizon, most P was bound on Fe and Al minerals and P distribution among inorganic fractions was the most important factor here, organic matter having lowerimportance.
